Frequently asked questions
The questions we get asked most about our coffee, grinding, delivery and subscriptions. If yours is not here, drop us a line and we will answer it.
Where is your coffee roasted?
Everything is roasted by us in London, in small batches. We spent years roasting behind the scenes for other speciality brands before putting our own name on the bag, and the coffee is still roasted by the same people on the same machine.
Can you grind the coffee for my brewer?
Yes. Every coffee can be ordered as whole bean or ground to order for filter, cafetiere, stove top, Aeropress or batch brew. Choose the grind on the product page before adding to your basket.
If you have a grinder at home, whole bean will always taste better. Coffee starts losing aroma within minutes of grinding.
How should I store my coffee, and how long does it keep?
Keep it somewhere cool and dark in an airtight container. The enemy is moisture, not time.
Coffee lasts far longer than people think. Our espresso roasts still taste great three months after roasting, and the single origins hold their flavour for longer still. If you want to keep a bag for months, freeze it and grind straight from frozen when you are ready.
One thing not to do: never keep coffee in the fridge. It picks up moisture and everything else in there.
If you are pulling shots, rest the beans for at least three days after roasting. If you cannot wait that long, it is not the end of the world.
How do I make cold brew?
Use 12 parts water to 1 part coffee, which works out at roughly 83g of coffee per litre. Grind coarse, combine with cold water, and leave it for 12 to 24 hours. Strain and keep it in the fridge.
Naturally processed coffees are the ones to reach for. The fruit and the sweetness come through beautifully cold. Our Nicaragua Monte Cristo is a natural and makes an excellent cold brew.
What sizes do you sell?
Every coffee comes in 250g and 1kg. The 1kg bags work out cheaper per cup and are the usual choice for households drinking more than a couple of cups a day.
How much is delivery and how long does it take?
UK delivery is £3.95 by Royal Mail 24 Tracked, and free on orders over £25. Royal Mail aim to deliver the next working day after dispatch, though that is a target rather than a guarantee.
We only ship within the UK at the moment.
How do coffee subscriptions work?
Pick a coffee, choose how often you want it, and it arrives on that schedule. Subscribers save 10% on every order, not just the first one.
You can pause, skip a delivery, change the coffee or cancel at any time from your account. There is no minimum term.
Is your decaf chemical free?
Yes. Our decaf is Swiss Water processed, which uses only water, temperature and time to remove the caffeine. No chemical solvents are involved at any stage.
What if I do not like the coffee?
Then we would rather know about it. Every order is covered by our 30 day trial: if it is not for you, tell us and we will refund you. Love it or your money back.
Do you supply cafes and offices?
We do. If you are looking for wholesale coffee, a trade account or help dialling in an espresso recipe, get in touch through the contact page and we will come back to you.
